Accessing Prescription Cannabis:
The Harvest Medicine Experience
Getting a prescription for cannabis (also called marijuana or weed) doesn't need to be challenging or uncomfortable. There are many benefits to prescribed cannabis and access to medical cannabis doctors, nurse practitioners and educators is easier than you think!
In just a few easy steps, you could be on your way to an improved quality of life with a medically supervised treatment plan, access to prescription cannabis products, 1:1 support, and ongoing educational opportunities.
STEP 1
Is prescription cannabis right for me?
Answer a short series of questions about your medical history. In just a few minutes, you’ll know if you are a suitable candidate for prescription cannabis!
Access to prescription cannabis is subject to the legal age limit in each individual province or territory
STEP 2
Book an Appointment
If your self-assessment indicates that prescription cannabis may be helpful, you’re ready to book an appointment with Harvest Medicine! You will also be asked to complete a questionnaire to inform our medical cannabis doctors and nurse practitioners of your medical history. If you need any assistance, feel free to reach out to our patient care team. We’re here to help!
*Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic appointments will be conducted by phone call or the HMED Connect app.
STEP 3
Meet with a Healthcare Professional
Set aside at least an hour on appointment day to ensure that you have all the time you need. Be sure to bring your health card information, a list of any medications you are currently taking, and any additional documentation that supports your medical condition.
You will first meet with a healthcare practitioner and team who will complete a medication, medical history, and symptom review. Provided that prescription cannabis is approved for your condition & use, you will be informed of medical cannabis dosing, safety, and precautions. You will have an individualized treatment plan with recommendations for suitable cannabis product types that may be effective for you. Your medical document, authorizing your use of prescription cannabis and grams per day, will be prepared.
*While clinics remain closed for in person appointments, you will a receive a call from your doctor or nurse practitioner at or near your scheduled appointment time. Stay home and we will call you. Please note that the incoming call will be from a blocked number. If blocked calls cannot be accepted, please inform our patient care team to make alternate arrangements by calling 1-844-488-4633.
STEP 4
Meet Patient Educator & Licensed Producer Selection
After your consultation with one of our medical cannabis doctors or nurse practitioners, you will then meet with a patient educator who will:
Help you determine which specific products best match your treatment plan assist you with choosing and registering with the licensed producer that is the best fit dosage amounts and instructions on how to use your prescription cannabis products answer any further questions you have about prescription cannabis.
*Once your call with the doctor or nurse practitioner has ended, shortly thereafter your cannabis educator will call you to complete your Harvest Medicine appointment.
STEP 5
Register with & Order Prescribed Cannabis from a Licensed Producer (LP)
Once you have chosen the LP that you’d like to order your medication from, the patient educator will forward them your medical document & assist you with registration. Your chosen LP will contact you within 3-7 business days to confirm that your registration is complete. To finalize the registration process, you’ll need to visit your chosen LP’s website to confirm and set up your patient account.
You are now ready to order your medication using your patient account! It will arrive right to your home, by chosen courier, after which you may begin your treatment plan.
